AAA Survey Shows Not All Children are in Safety Seats

Mid-Atlantic department of AAA reports depressing statistics: still around 100 children under 5 years old throughout the country die in car accidents due to absence of safety seats.

For instance, Delaware 2006 figures for under five years old age group: 1 child died and 11 got injured in road accidents.

AAA experts say the situation may be partly explained by misinformation. About as much as 61 percent of interrogated did not accurately know the age of children allowed to ride in the vehicle fastened with only a lap and shoulder belt. The figures are worse in the immigrant population: most of them lack the knowledge of laws and do not install children safety seats properly.
